Clermont County businesses are encouraged to take part in the SHOP CLERMONT campaign at the Taste of Clermont September 11th through 13th in the Eastgate Mall parking lot. Local businesses are asked to create discount coupons/flyers that will be passed out to consumers at the SHOP CLERMONT booth. This free marketing opportunity is a win-win for businesses and consumers.
The SHOP CLERMONT campaign is an effort to educate county citizens on how the sales tax benefits them. "When citizens eat at local restaurants and shop at retail businesses across Clermont County, it directly benefits the community they call home," said Board of Clermont County Commissioners President Ed Humphrey. "A portion of the money you spend for these services is returned to the county to fund local government services, including the Sheriff's Office, Clermont Jail, Clermont Communications Center, and court system." The sales and use tax is the state government's second largest source of revenue and is an important revenue source for county government. The current state tax rate is 5.5% and Clermont County, like most counties across the state, has a 1% permissive tax that is levied when you buy retail items or eat at local restaurants.
Businesses interested in taking part in the campaign can call Julie Graybill of the Clermont Chamber of Commerce at (513) 576-5013.
SHOP CLERMONT is a public education project of the Clermont County Public Relations Group (a coalition of county government, township, school, social service agency, chamber of commerce, and university communications professionals). The Office of Economic Development is a participating member.
