Odom Industries Forges Success in Steel

Tim Odom

Click here to watch an interview with Odom Industries' founder Tim Odom.

The first thing visitors to Odom Industries notice is that the large "O" emblem on the front of the building looks a lot like the famous "O" of the Ohio State Buckeyes. No surprise, when you learn that this thriving Clermont County company is operated by CEO Tim Odom, a former member of the powerhouse Ohio State Buckeyes football team! He uses the disciplined work ethic he gained on the football field to strategize his company's winning game plan.

"I began this company from the basement of my house in 2001," reflects Odom. "The next year we acquired the business assets of RK Fabricating (previously Stacey Manufacturing) whose rich history dates back to 1851 as a blacksmithing business. It was called Stacey Brothers even though two sisters ran it. They were concerned no one would buy from a business called Stacey Sisters. Relocating our company from Elmwood Place to Clermont County was a tremendous move for us. Since that time our business has doubled every year for the past four years!" Odom estimates that sales will reach $14 million in 2007.

Odom Industries, located at 1262 U.S. 50 near Milford, offers a full range of heavy plate, large-scale fabricating services for the steel mill, mining, construction, and petrochemical industries. At its 52,000 square foot plant located on 17½ acres, Odom Industries provides parts and services in the large segmental heads and cones industry to local, regional, national, and international vendors; the company specializes in custom heavy press forming, making everything from heavy steel blast furnaces for steel mills to explosion chambers for bomb detonation. "In many cases, our competitors are also our clients," said Odom. "We can do the jobs they can't." He is quick to point out that working smarter and leaner, while recognizing the competition's weaknesses and Odom Industries strengths, has enabled his business to compete effectively for jobs with major steel, energy, and petroleum providers.

"The labor pool locally is fantastic," said Odom. "We have a great source in hiring mechanical-minded, skilled employees and we are in a county that is genuinely excited about economic development. The Clermont Office of Economic Development has been invaluable in helping us expand our abilities."

Odom expects to see continued growth for his business in the next five years. He anticipates doubling the size of its facility in the next five years, attracting $22 million in business, and acquiring another facility on water, possibly the Ohio River. With his play book, it will no doubt happen!
