Recently, two Clermont County companies were each awarded a $45,000 grant to purchase new equipment to expand their businesses. As Ohio's fifth largest tobacco producing county, Clermont County, through the Southern Ohio Agricultural and Community Development Foundation (SOACDF) had $90,000 available for fiscal year 2010 to help businesses undertake projects that create jobs.
Giese Screw Machine Products is a Union Township-based precision CNC machining services company. Founded in 1954, the company is a third generation family-run business which has 29 employees. Giese plans to purchase two new CNC machines to help meet the demand of a new business opportunity and will be adding three full-time employees.
Mil Air, LLC, located in the Park 50 complex in Miami Township, is also a SOACDF grant recipient. The company produces high quality military thermal products and is currently a Tier 1 or 2 supplier for many of the leading military contractors in the world. Mil Air plans to purchase a CNC punching press and paint booth system to allow for greater flexibility in prototype production of its units. Since locating in Miami Township in 2007, Mil Air has grown to almost 30 employees and plans to add three additional full-time employees as part of the grant program.
Since the inception of this grant program in 2004-2005, the SOACDF has awarded over $1 million in grants to Clermont County companies to leverage over $36 million in new investment, which has created almost 300 jobs and retained hundreds more. SOACDF grants are awarded on a rolling basis and Clermont County has used its entire allotment this year. A new round of funding is expected to become available in July 2010.
