The Third Frontier Internship Program reimburses Ohio employers up to 50% of an intern's salary for work experience in cutting-edge fields. The Third Frontier Internship Program is designed to foster innovation in Ohio businesses, create employees with needed skills, and retain the knowledge workers who will fuel Ohio's economy in the future.
Ohio companies are eligible to participate in the Third Frontier Internship Program if they are in one of the following fields:
- Advanced manufacturing;
- Advanced materials;
- Bioscience;
- Information Technology;
- Instruments, controls, and electronics; or
- Power and propulsion.
The businesses should exhibit innovation, high-tech focus, and entrepreneurial spirit. They can also be involved in commercial product development or advanced manufacturing techniques.
Eligible businesses can hire a sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student enrolled in a math, science, or engineering program at a four-year university or community college. The internship position should be designed to allow the student to gain practical work experience in a high-tech position. It can also provide host employers with state-of-the-art skills that will help accelerate their short-term business objectives.
The State of Ohio will reimburse approved employers 50% of an intern's wages, up to a maximum of $3,000. The program is administered by the Ohio Department of Development. A complete program description and contact information can be found at www.ohio3fip.com.
