Nearly all of Clermont County is classified as a rural enterprise zone. That designation allows Clermont County to offer businesses tax abatements on real property in exchange for new capital investment and job creation.
For-profit businesses that agree to build, expand, or renovate a facility and hire or retain employees are eligible for tax abatements. The amount of the abatement is negotiated on a specific project basis and varies depending on factors such as the size of the investment and number of jobs created. Typical agreements offer a 50-60% abatement of real property tax for 5-7 years. New machinery and equipment are no longer subject to personal property tax in Ohio so they are no longer being abated.
Enterprise Zone abatements are designed to attract and foster investment. An agreement must be in place between the company and Clermont County before the project commences. Companies considering a construction or expansion project that are interested in an enterprise zone agreement should meet with the Clermont County Office of Economic Development.
