The Impact Academy: Innovation in Manufacturing Practice and Collaborative Training is a unique program developed by businesses, educational institutions, and government in Clermont County to help prepare students with skills they will need for advanced manufacturing careers. UC Clermont College spearheads the effort to identify the skills manufacturing employers are seeking in employees. In conjunction with US Grant Career Center, Southern Hills Career Center, and Great Oaks, it has developed a curriculum to teach the manufacturing skills employers are seeking.
Students enrolled in the program are taught computer aided design and computer integrated manufacturing. They have the opportunity to train on CNC lathes, CNC mills, hydraulic and pneumatic trainers, manufacturing cells, rapid prototype machines, and coordinate measurement machines.
The Impact Academy was founded through grants from the Southern Ohio Agricultural Community Development Fund and the Appalachian Regional Commission as well as donations from private industry.
The Impact Academy can provide manufacturing employers with student co-ops to fill positions. It also invites employers to participate in curriculum development, which will ensure that students are prepared with skills needed in a rapidly evolving workplace. Employers who would like more information on the Impact Academy can visit its website at www.theimpactacademy.com or contact Dexter Hulse at Dexter.Hulse@uc.edu.
